Admission to various courses - General Information
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics currently offers three
highly rated programmes:
1. Integrated M.Sc. (Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics -
Operations Research
2. M.Sc (Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics-Operations Research
3. Ph.D. (Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics,
and Operations Research)
Admissions to I.M.Sc.,M.Sc., Ph.D. programmes are based on the entrance examination and
interview conducted by the University. The duration of the written test
for all courses will be two hours.

Our programmes lay emphasis on current developments in mathematical
sciences including those in interdisciplinary areas. Every year at least
3 to 4 students from the Department secure ranks in the top 10 ranks in
the GATE. In the last 5 years, more than 50 students have qualified for
the CSIR-UGC Junior Research Fellowship/NET. Most of these students join
the Ph.D. programme either at our University or at institutions like
TIFR, CMI, IMSc, ISI's and IIT's. The Department runs a very successful
and rigorous Ph.D. programme. In the last 20 years all our Ph.D.
students have held CSIR-UGC/NBHM fellowships.
All students joining the University of Hyderabad are given financial
support for the duration of their course provided they pass all their

Admission to the University is open to all who fulfill the prescribed
qualifications without any distinction of race, caste, creed, language
or sex. The selection is made strictly on the basis of merit at the
entrance examination and interview.
No student shall be eligible for admission to the M.Sc. course unless she/he has successfully completed a three
year Undergraduate Degree through an examination conducted by a
University/ Autonomous College. However, as a
transitory measure, a candidate who has passed a two year degree course
may also be considered for admission provided she/he has undergone a
further one year bridge course and passed the same.
Candidates whose result of the qualifying degree/ other examination is
not declared may also apply for admission. But they may have to produce
the results of the qualifying degree to the University within a time

All courses at the Master's Degree level, 5-Year Integrated Master's
Degree, Ph.D. are full time regular courses.
For Ph.D. programmes, the candidates are encouraged to join as regular
students. However, for those who are not in a position to do research on
full time basis, a limited provision exists for part time.
A candidate is free to apply for admission to as many courses as she/he
wishes after ensuring from the schedule for the Entrance examination
that there is no clash in the subjects of her/his choice. The University
has made the best possible efforts to avoid overlap in the schedule of
examinations of related subjects. The candidates are advised to study
the examination schedule carefully before deciding on their choice of
subjects.
Admission notification to Integrated M.Sc. / MSc / PhD courses will be
issued normally in the first week of April. The students are selected
through a nation-wide entrance test + interview. Entrance examinations
will take place in the first week of June. For more information about
